2023
The Woman’s Opportunity Rehabilitation Center (WORC) was honored to be a recipient of the Byrne Discretionary Grant, thanks to the dedicated support of Former Congresswoman Kathleen Rice (NY-4), Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer, and U.S. Senator Kirsten Gillibrand.
WORC received $638,000 in federal funding to expand its mission of providing comprehensive, wraparound services to justice-impacted women and at-risk youth in Nassau County, New York.
Through this critical grant, WORC delivered a range of transformative services including:
Reentry support services
Mental health and substance use referrals
GED preparation classes
Court advocacy and an Alternative to Incarceration (ATI) day program
Educational advocacy to help youth re-engage with their school districts
Vocational and occupational training opportunities
In collaboration with the Nassau County Problem Solving Court, WORC also provided housing assistance to survivors of human trafficking, domestic violence, dating violence, sexual assault, and stalking. As a result, 25 individuals were able to either relocate to safety or resolve rental arrears, securing stable, permanent housing.
We are deeply grateful for the continued support and strategic partnership of our congressional leaders, who have demonstrated a strong commitment to justice, equity, and the empowerment of vulnerable communities.
