“As the Attorney in Chief at the Legal Aid Society of Nassau County I am pleased to acknowledge the amazing and consequential work The Woman’s Opportunity Rehabilitation Center (WORC) provides to women who find themselves involved in the criminal justice system.

WORC provides the necessary support and resources to our female clients to address the root causes of their involvement in the criminal justice system, whether it be issues of poverty, substance abuse, domestic violence, or homelessness. Most of our clients who participate in WORC are young, black or brown, poor, and are mothers who lack appropriate parenting skills, education and work experience.

Our clients choose to participate in the WORC program to help maintain their sobriety, to obtain requisite parenting skills, education and vocational training that will enable them to enter the work force and be better parents and productive women in our Nassau County community.

The Nassau County Legal Aid Society will continue to support Diane Gaines, the Chief Executive Director of WORC and her staff efforts to empower justice impacted women to make positive changes in their lives which will benefit them, their families, and our community.”
